If Ani DiFranco and Ben Folds had (and then abandoned) a lovechild somewhere around 1999, you’d have Flush.

Joshua Piper (piano, vocals) and Dave Ransom (guitars, vocals) started Flush early in 2009 while pursuing their own solo careers in Austin, TX.

Soon after, the boys begged Jake Adams (drums, vocals) and Doug Anthony (bass) to join them. Begrudgingly, these two talented musicians humor young Joshua and Dave, and sometimes school them on how to be real musicians.

Why Flush? Well, if you don’t, that’s gross for the next person. So, why “Flush” for a band name? Well, it’s better than what landed on the cutting room floor, we’ll just say that. However, Flush has many meanings, and we encourage all interpretations and definitions here.

Musically, Flush is getting to know itself with every practice, gig, and recording session. As the band grows in stature in the local Austin music scene, so does it grow in potential. At first, Joshua and Dave brought their solo songwriting chops to the table and asked the band to add their own style to them. This worked for a time, but soon the band felt the songwriter’s urge to develop songs together and, with a bigger picture mindset, Flush started to come out with new collages. Flush’s new recordings are a smattering of old and new, from genres that span a list of influences the Library of Congress would adore. From Chopin to Dr. Dog, and all the way back again, Flush is paving it’s own musical road.

You’ll want to keep an eye on these guys -the present is bright and the future is coming quickly.
